The Reality...

Living on the streets of Manchester would not be the first choice of most people but for many people in Manchester it's a reality. There is a whole community of people who live on the streets. Many of those living on the streets are there because of the effects of drug and alcohol addiction. Some have lived there from a young age. Whatever their reason, they are there and there is no way of avoiding them. There are people who would prefer that they would just go away and they pretend that they are not there but God knows every single one of them and as Christians we cannot ignore them. Jesus is very clear about how we should treat those in need in Matthew 25:35. When we provide for those who have a need, Its like we are providing for Jesus directly.

What does City Action do?

City Action are group of people who are passionate about providing for the needs of the homeless. Every Monday night they walk the streets of Manchester with food and cloting for anyone who requires it. They walk without prejustice but with the Love and Compassion of Jesus. If they need a hot pot with a cup of tea or they need some socks and gloves in the winter they provide it. If they need a hug and prayer they give it. They laugh, cry and even sing with them and build friendships and if nessessary use words to back up the Love of Jesus for them.

What can you do?

Much of the food, toiletries and clothes given to those on the streets are provide by the kind donations of those at HCC but there is always more that can be given. If you are local you can give food, tolietries and clothes directly to the church by giving via the Open Door Coffee mornings on Tuesday.

You don't have to be in City Action to show kindness and God compassion to those on the streets. If you see someone in need perhaps you could offer to buy them a sandwich and a drink. It doesn't matter if they say no or they treat you badly because remember Jesus showed no prejustice just love and compassion.

Matthew 25:35 NIV

Jesus said: "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in"
